ASA Members – Ethics and Conduct
The ASA’s Statement of Ethics and Code of Conduct outline the Society’s expectations for the behaviour of its members and all participants at ASA endorsed meetings or activities. Potential breaches of these expectations can be reported and will be handled by the Ethics and Conduct Committee (ECC) according to defined procedures.
Statement of Ethics
The ASA Statement of Ethics outlines the philosophy of the ASA with respect to professional conduct.
Code of Conduct
The ASA Code of Conduct outlines the Society’s expectations for behaviour and conduct of all participants at ASA endorsed meetings or activities, and ASA members at all astronomical meetings or activities.

Guidelines on Conflict of Interest
The ASA Guidelines on Conflict of Interest provide general CoI guidelines and is intended to be read in conjunction with the Statement of Ethics.
Handling of Potential Breaches of the ASA Statement of Ethics and Code of Conduct
The ASA Ethics and Conduct Committee (ECC) has been established to oversee the investigation of any complaints of unethical behaviour or misconduct according to policies and procedures described in this document.

Complaint Form
As far as possible, individuals having a complaint about a violation of ASA ethical or conduct standards should seek to resolve the issue informally at first. If that is unsuccssful, a formal complaint may be made via the Complaint Form. A complaint may be filed by:
- Any attendee of an ASA-organised, -sponsored or -supported meeting, or event who experiences or witnesses another attendee potentially violating ASA ethical or conduct standards,
- Any attendee of any astronomical event who witnesses an ASA member potentially violating ASA ethical or conduct standards,
- Any contributor or user of ASA publications who identifies behaviour potentially violating ASA ethical or conduct standards.
Investigation of any complaints will be undertaken by the ASA Ethics and Conduct Committee (ECC).
